Meet Amy

A native Texas, I grew up in the 1960s and 70s in southwest Fort Worth. Having drawn and painted since age 3, I have no formal art education, apart from regular art classes throughout elementary, middle, high school, and college. I also took extracurricular art classes (my mother was a painter, too, and I’d go take art lessons with her. Also, I enjoyed art classes at the then “Children’s Museum” in Fort Worth) while honing my skills independently.

College and Career

I earned a BFA in communication design from Baylor University. However, I consider myself more a fine artist than commercial artist. During and after college, I freelanced courtroom illustration for TV stations in Waco (my first gig was illustrating high profile triple-murder Spence trial in ’84), Dallas and Fort Worth. I’ve drawn and painted commissioned portraits since college. I had a day job a major yearbook publisher for the past 33+ years, until they moved the manufacturing plant ouf of the country in the fall of 2023. Despite the disappoinment, this has freed me up to spend more time cultivating my art career.

Commissioned Portraits

My artwork has been displayed in a number of galleries, retail and various venues over the years and is held in private collections in the United States and abroad as I continue to paint portraits of children, adults and pets by commission.

Recent Activities

In 2024, I began teaching art at Irving Fine Arts Academy and have been enjoying the unique opportunity to display my artwork there as well. I also teach and demo drawing and painting to high school age students in a Classical Conversations North Texas homeschool class. I also lead painting party events.

I am available for portrait commissions, lessons, teaching opportunities and paint party events.

“One of my greatest joys in life is at the easel capturing the likenesses of my subjects and seeing the delight and, at times, tears of joy on my clients’ faces. It’s moments like these that truly make my hard work worthwhile.”
